Past Events

Provo MTC Tour

Location: Provo Missionary Training Center

Date: April 2024

Event Highlights: Our youth were led on a guided tour around the facilities of the Provo missionary training center. They learned about daily schedules of a Latter-day Saint missionary and what missionaries learn and prepare to do during their service. At the conclusion of the tour, the youth heard testimonies of two Sister missionaries who are currently in training. Many of the youth who attended commented that they are more interested in serving missions because of this tour.

Cultural Outreach: Liahona High School, Tonga

Location: Liahona, Tonga

Date: December 2022

Event Highlights: Our youth learned how Liahona High School functions and how the youth of Tonga receive education in a Christ-centered environment. This cultural exchange provided Zion with an opportunity to learn from the admirable levels of respect and discipline amongst the students of Tonga. This event also laid the foundation to a long lasting collaboration between Zion and Liahona High School.

University of Southern California Visit

Location: Los Angeles, California

Date: January 2020

Event Highlights: Zion alumni visited multiple schools in Southern California. The private tour of University of Southern California was provided by USC and NFL player Chris Clairborne.  The Zion youth were grateful for the opportunity to see their potential and received additional motivation to accomplish their goals.

Zion Football Clinic: Tonga

Location: Makeke, Tonga

Date: June 2019

Event Highlights: In conjunction with 2-time National High School Football Coach of the Year, Siuaki Livai, Zion had the opportunity to help run a clinic and Multiple football games for the youth. Zion left Tonga humbled by the life-changing experience.

University of Utah

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah

Date: November 2018

Event Highlights: President Rich Kaufusi took the time to provide a private tour of the University of Utah to Zion. The youth were able to learn from his personal experience about the value of an education coupled with the hard work of developing one's talents. This was the first time for most of the Zion youth to ever set foot on a university campus.  

Salt Lake Burrito Project

Location: Salt Lake City, Utah

Date: May 2018

Event Highlights: Zion youth were able to prepare and distribute hundreds of Burritos to those in need in the Rio Grande area of Salt Lake City. They were able to connect with those in need and find a way to help within their own community. This service project helped the youth realize the blessing, access, and duty they have to continually help others.

14U Back-to-Back National Champions

Location: Canton, Ohio

Date: December 2018

Event Highlights: Zion participants were able to secure their second consecutive 14U National Football Championship in an NFL Stadium. This experience was captivated by the dedication of the game to a 10-year old brother of a Zion participant, Naki, who was battling terminal cancer at the time. He was able to speak with all Zion team members prior to the championship game and a few months prior to his passing. This left an everlasting impression amongst the Zion youth that not even a National Championship should compare to what matters most and lasts the longest.

Ohio State University

Location: Columbus, Ohio

Date: December 2017

Event Highlights: Guided on a private tour by Ohio State Running Backs Coach, Tony Alford, Zion participants were able to learn what it takes to be part of a National Powerhouse. They also learned from Coach Alford about the importance of working harder in all aspects of life to develop into a future father and husband. This tour concluded with an on-the-field tour of the 102,780 seat Ohio Stadium.

Kirtland Temple

Location: Kirtland, Ohio

Date: December 2017

Event Highlights: Zion youth were humbled to have an inter-faith experience with the Community of Christ Church. As they went through their private tour of the Kirtland Temple, the Zion youth were able to learn how to be open-minded to the testimonies of other religions. Many of the youth have said that being present in the first temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was a life-changing experience.

Hike the Y

Location: Provo, Utah

Date: March 2017

Event Highlights: While hiking the Y as an inaugural activity to get to know each other, the youth noticed a young man near the entrance of the Y Hike. With a chronic disability that prevented him from walking without a cane, the vibrant participants of Zion took turns carrying him to the top of the Y. Once there, they were able to share their testimonies of what is their "Y" in life and how they can dedicate their lives to serving others at all times.
